We demonstrate that significant cost savings can be extracted from high-capacity submarine systems using massive space-division multiplexing (SDM) under a fixed electrical power supply constraint. Advanced submarine fiber, low-noise-figure amplification, and nonlinearity compensation provide no significant benefits in such systems
