Two anilinoalkyl methacrylates were copolymerized with methyl methacrylate in various ratios. The copolymers were converted to polymeric azo dyes, potential second-order nonlinear optical materials, via a novel azo coupling process that represents an improvement over the alternative polymerization of azo dye methacrylates. Spectroscopic and thermal properties of the copolymers were determined as well.
