A centralized supervisory and control system is described for the extensive power generating and distribution network of the Edisonvolta Group in Northern Italy. The control center is in Milan. The first part of the article deals with the telephone network, interconnecting 24 exchanges by power-line carrier, cable and open-wire cable and open-wire circuits. Common control type exchanges allow a 3-digit closed numbering scheme and automatic rerouting facilities. The second part describes the telemetering, remote control and remote signaling systems. From the Milan center 23 remote stations are supervised by 2 operator and eventually 50 to 60 remote stations are foreseen.
