With imminent arrival of wide-band packet networks the transmission of compressed TV signals is considered. There are some specific advantages using packet networks. Namely, any fixed data rate, or a variable data rate is possible. However, packet loss must be considered. Some issues relevant to mutual design of the networks and compression algorithms will be presented. Perhaps more important, we talk about what we do not know about the design of such systems.
