The power requirements for the conversion of optical signals to electrical and the attendant narrowband/broadband services at the customer end of a fiber optic system are an order of magnitude greater than those of the traditional loop system for POTS service. The thrust to minimize per line costs by clustering and curbside/back lot pedestal arrangements, further complicates the power system.
