Test Scenarios and Validation Capabilities (in EARTH Project)
31 December 2010
This document presents the way to validate solutions proposed for increasing the energy efficiency in mobile radio systems. The validation shall be done by concept evaluations in a radio network test plant, supplementing the investigations of the work packages "Green Networks" and "Green Radios". Potential test scenarios are defined for the evaluation of network solutions and component prototypes as well. As far as the network solutions is concerned, an evaluation scenario for an "ON/OFF scheme" concept dealing with base station deactivation in low traffic situations is presented based on a simplified network structure. For the energy efficiency evaluation of components and related features, evaluation scenarios based on hardware components for transceiver systems dedicated to pico and macro base stations are defined. The improvements and benefit in terms of energy efficiency will be assessed by comparing the performance by carrying out the tests when applying the proposed features and when not applying them. The test scenarios, the evaluation methods and the validation capabilities presented in this document show the basis for the "Validation Platform Definition", the next milestone related to these activities.
