The 5ESS(R) Switch in International Gateway Applications (NOT PUBLISHED)

International Gateway Switches play an important role in the rapid evolution of world-wide telecommunication networks and services. This paper describes the gateway version of the 5ESS(R) Switch, which is currently being deployed in several countries. The paper first discusses the environment in which modern gateway exchanges operate. Some details on a number of fully integrated gateway functions are presented next. The paper also describes a number of International subscriber, operational, and maintenance features that have been incorporated in the switch.
