All fibers loops provide the opportunity to deliver unlimited bandwidth to a customer. In the near term, this bandwidth will be used to provide both standard telephony and CATV services. The system architecture for an all fiber loop may be quite different from that used for today's cooper loops. Architectures such as rings, buses, and switched stars need to be considered because each has the potential to provide cost or service advantages. In fact the architecture that is used for Plain-Old- Telephone-Service (POTS) may differ from that used for CATV since these two services have different characteristics.
