The Atmosphere: Past, Present, and Future.

This memorandum briefly describes a book by the above title that will be published by Princeton University Press. The table of contents is included to provide an overview of the topics that are treated. Designed as an undergraduate textbook, the volume describes the functioning of the atmosphere-hydrosphere- solid Earth system, with emphasis on the factors controlling the composition and evolution of the chemistry of the atmosphere. The information forms much of the technical basis for assessments of atmospheric impacts, including the corrosion and degradation of materials used in telecommunications manufacture and in- service equipment. Copies of the entire manuscript are available in prepublication form by request from the author.
