As operators investigate the possibility of introducing Optical Cross Connects (OXCs) into their trasnsport networks, it is important to understand the benefits and advantages that such a technology option would bring about. In this paper we investigate the reconfiguration capability of OCX-enabled intelligent optical networks, focusing on possible reconfiguration strategies and the quantification of the expected capacity benefits. The effect of network size and connectivity on these benefits is investigated.
