With the widespread use of C has come a need for a more precise definition of the language than the first edition provided. The ANSI Standard for C represents five years of hard work by the members of the X3J11 committee to provide "an unambiguous and machine-independent definition of the language C" while retaining the spirit of the language. This second edition describes C as defined by the ANSI standard.
