The Changing Role of the Telecommunications Site Manager
26 October 1988
Changing telecommunications technology within the corporate environment requires appropriate evolution of telecommunications site management as an organizational role. Among the trends that directly affect the job of telecommunications site management are more integrated delivery of telecommunications and end user computing services, increased pace of R&D within the telecommunications industry, more complex customer needs assessment, more customer control over premises equipment, and an increased need for customer training and support. One major implication of these trends is for the telecommunications site manager to become more proactive, more visible, and more influential throughout the local organization. The evolving role of the site manager, however, is not limited to issues of job design and technological innovation. It must also reflect cultural change within the organization.
