The crystal structures of the lithium inserted metal oxides Li(.5)TiO(2) anatese, LiTi(2)O(4) spinel and Li(2)Ti(2)O(4).

We determined the crystal structures of three lithium titanates with host structures based on cubic close packed oxygen arrays by neutron diffraction powder profile analysis. We find lithium to occupy interstitial TiO(2) host and the concentration of inserted ions. With the completion of this study we have come to an understanding of the structures of lithium inserted metal oxides with cubic close packed, hexagonal close packed, and crystallographically sheared hosts.
