The gamma radiation induced loss responses for several MCVD fiber designs were examined where the effective phosphorus level varied in the cladding. It is shown that low levels of phosphorus are useful in reducing radiation induced losses at 1.3 and 1.5micron below -25C, thereby flattening the temperature dependent losses.
