The Evolving Role of the Information Professional in Industry

Information professionals in industry (special librarians, information specialists, etc.) have always prided themselves on the fact that they provide very specialized, highly targeted services to their customers and that they pay close, personal attention to the needs of those customers. Many modern innovations in the information business have had their precursors in industrial information services and many of the earliest customers of the online database vendors were special librarians and their customers.
