The Future of WDM

Wavelength Division Multiplexing, which is simply the technique of communicating multiple data streams on separate wavelengths, has emerged as a powerful technology in communications. Rapid progress leads us to wonder what might be the future of this technology. How far might this go? Might it someday be possible for everybody on the planet to have their own wavelength?
