The Future X Network: The Future of Broadband Access

For the past two decades, Broadband Access has mainly been provided by traditional telecommunication operators and cable TV operators. They have leveraged their existing wireline networks, based on either twisted pair or hybrid fiber coax, to offer triple play services of voice, data and video and have typically operated with a national market focus, serving the needs of their original domestic markets. With the dominance of mobile communications and networking in the last decade, many operators purchased mobile networks in other markets. Then, with the move towards quadruple-play services including wireless services with the triple play offers convergence of fixed and mobile operators in each domestic market began to occur. However, given the hyper-competitive nature of the marketplace, this convergence often came at the expense of further global expansion, creating a relatively localized set of converged operators.
