The Future X Network: The Future of Network Energy

We are witnessing an explosion of the traffic volumes in communication and data networks resulting from both the worldwide broadband subscriber base expansion and the increasing number and diversity of connected applications, services, devices and objects. The increased traffic volumes and connectivity requirements necessitate continuous development and deployment of new technologies and infrastructures to deliver the expected performance and user experiences. The resulting energy consumption and energy cost of the broader communication infrastructure including the communication networks, connected devices and data centers are quickly becoming one of the major challenges for the ICT industry. The benefits of ICT are undisputed to enable a more prosperous, more accessible and more sustainable future for all. It is nevertheless the responsibility of the ICT sector to also effectively manage its own impact on the environment.
