The Future X Network: The Future of Wide Area Networks
10 September 2015
We are entering a new technological era where everything will be digitized and there will be an unprecedented demand to connect this massive new set of digital goods to create new value in terms of automation of lives and systems. The network will require the ability to deliver information and entertainment content at massive scale but with an economic outlay that is not vastly different than today. This requirement comes at a time when we have reached the physical limits of todays network performance and so a top to bottom restructuring of networks is required, with a wholesale shift to highly distributed, highly intelligent optimized networking. Todays self contained standalone networking constructs whether it be an operator, a network, a network layer, or a network element will be dis-aggregated and then realigned and reintegrated at different levels using a set of new software platforms and interfaces. This will require a new automated control paradigm that will make networks truly programmable and the essential building blocks of a new digital connected reality.
