The Log as Part of the Data Base

Traditional database systems hide the recovery process from the user. Eliminating this restriction by treating the log records (the data used as the basis of recovery) as part of the database has many benefits. These include the ability to pose queries that cannot be specified in traditional database systems and queries that were not envisioned by the system designers.
