Today's end-customer communications network often spans three domains: customer premises, local exchange networks, and interexchange networks. The end customer - a business, corporation or institution - typically has voice and data equipment on their premises, uses the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) for services and connection, crosses the country through an interexchange network, and may connect with AT&T and Post Telephone and Telegraph international services. These end-customer networks are usually multiple-vendor environments.
