The Power of Short-Term Prediction in Wireless Systems - A b/s/Hz Perspective

New Image

In this short paper we demonstrate the bits/sec/Hz spectral efficiency (SE) of a predictive Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio SINR system in the context of LTE. However, the analysis holds for any wireless communication system. We show that, by feeding the predicted SINR into the Modulation- Coding-Scheme (MCS) decision block, in place of the received SINR at the eNodeB, the capacity of an LTE system can be improved by as much as 100% for low CQI (Channel Quality Indicator) reporting delay(10 m-sec) and as much as 10% for higher CQI reporting delays of up to 100 m-secs. . We demonstrate this from fundamental Shannon capacity theory.
