The Relative Importance of Joule Heating and the Lorentz Force in Generating Atmospheric Gravity Waves (AGWs) in the Auroral Oval: Events on April 15, 1989 at Sondre Stromfjord
Two large, energetic ionospheric events occurred at 1515 UT and 1610 UT on April 15, 1989 at Sondre Stromfjord. Using measurements from the incoherent scatter radar and a simultaneously-operating magnetometer, we obtained data describing Joule heating, electric fields, current densities, ion-velocities, and Pedersen and Hall Conductivities in the ionospheric E-region.
