Activities of standards groups such as parameter definition and product and test method specification can influence component and system reliability. In addition to these traditional activities, lightwave standards groups are beginning to take a more direct role in product reliability by creating procedures for quality conformance specification, process control and monitoring, and the qualification approval of manufacturers.
