The Silicon Database Machine: Rationale, Design, and Results

This paper discusses the design of the Silicon Database Machine. We show how the decisions to store the entire database in main memory and to use off-the-shelf components influenced the design of the machine, and how these decisions led to a database system that is fast, easy to implement, and very easy to port to new hardware.
