Man-made emissions of CO sub 2 and other gases are increasing atmospheric concentrations in a way that will eventually alter the climate of the earth. Interest in this area of global climatology has built steadily during the past two decades in the scientific community, but the greenhouse effect has suddenly become a high-priority item for various government agencies around the world. This memo is one of the written contributions prepared by members of an international task force assembled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to study the quality assurance and statistical analysis of CO sub 2 measurements.
