At AT&T Bell Laboratories the HAZOP and What If analyses have proven to be powerful tools in uncovering potential industrial hygiene and safety hazards associated with new semiconductor processes. Where the risks to life and property can be high, such as, when pyrophoric or highly toxic gases are used, systematic hazard analysis is critical. This presentation will review the basics of the HAZOP and What If analyses and illustrate each with examples from the electronics industry.
