The VLSI design automation assistant: From algorithms to silicon.

This paper outlines our approach to automatic design of VLSI circuits from algorithmic descriptions. We discuss how to break the integrated-circuit design process into stages, and how to implement those stages as either knowledge-based expert systems of algorithmic programs. The paper briefly describes related research, the elements of our approach and our plans for future work.
