Theory of optical bistability and differential gain due to absorption increasing with excitation.

This paper presents an extended theoretical analysis of a novel method of obtaining optical bistability and differential gain. This method requires an absorption which is more than linearly proportional to the degree to which the material is excited to show bistability, but requires no external feedback.
