The synthesis of copper metal via the thermal decomposition of copper containing polymer precursors was studied. The object of this study was to extend the processing advantages inherent to polymeric materials (e.g. film and fiber forming abilities) to inorganic compounds. Complexes between P2VPy and CuCL sub 2, CuBr sub 2 and Cu(HCO sub 2) sub 2 were prepared and the thermal decomposition of these materials was investigated.
