Time-Varying Network Tomography: Router Link Data ,

We study inference of origin-destination (OD) traffic matrices in local area networks using only measurements of the aggregate traffic passing through each of the network router links. OD traffic matrices are useful for solving problems in network design and routing as well as configuration debugging and network monitoring. Direct measurements of OD traffic matrices are not readily available but less informative link counts are easy to obtain using a standard protocol provided by network routers. The challenge, then, is to infer the time-varying amount of OD traffic using only link traffic over time. There are typically many more OD pairs than there are network links.
