Transoceanic 4x4Gbit/s system combining dispersion-managed soliton transmission and new `black-box' in-line optical regeneration

The compatibility of in-line optical regeneration with dispersion-managed wavelength division multiplexed soliton transmission is demonstrated, through the use of a new `black-box' regenerator scheme. The possibility of achieving 4 x 40Gbit/s transmission over 15Mm, compared to 2Mm without regeneration, is demonstrated numerically.
