Transparent Nonlinear Optical Devices

Proposals in the literature for the development of devices based on ultrafast, nonresonant nonlinearities have concentrated on demonstrating the existence and measuring the size and speed of the physical phenomenon. However, even when an interaction between light pulses can be described in terms of a logic operation, a viable device will not result unless it can be made robust in the system sense.
