Ultra-high-bandwidth monolithic VCSEL arrays for high-speed metro networks

In this paper, we demonstrate that directly modulated InP short-cavity single-mode VCSEL arrays emitting at 1.55-um are suitable optical transmitters for metro network applications. We show 400-Gb/s transmission over 400-km standard single mode fiber using a wavelength-division-multiplexed and polarization-division-multiplexed 4-level pulse-amplitude-modulated (4PAM) monolithic VCSEL array, enabled by digital coherent detection
