Wire telephone communication in theory and practice

This paper presents in non-mathematical terms the elements of transmission of speech over wires, and is a summary of the literature of the art published by several authors. A short discussion is given of the requirements of a telephone transmission system together with the effects and functions of its several parts. Loading and the application of telephone repeaters are dealt with.
