WorldViews: A unified Approach to Automatic Indexing and Information Retrieval

A coherent strategy for organizing vast quantities of information and providing easy-to-use retrieval tools is a necessity if we are to reap the benefits of the information age without being jaded by informational overload. This paper describes an experimental system called WorldViews that unites the automatic indexing and information retrieval tasks around one simple, familiar, yet surprisingly versatile knowledge representation framework, namely, a lattice-structured version of the traditional thesaurus framework.
