The Operator Services Position System (OSPS) feature of the 5ESS(R) Switch uses Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) facilities to bring data and voice to operators, offering new ways to provide service and realize revenue. Local, transit, gateway, or stand-alone switches can contain OSPS features. A versatile Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) allows telephone company supervisors to spread work over different serving teams of operators. Once the operator receives a call, a powerful ISDN-based operator console enables operators to handle complex calls easily. For traffic assistance calls, OSPS provides visible instruction (VIT), billing, call booking, and conference calls. Anti-fraud features, trunk offering, and enhanced charge and duration advice, which depend on the features of the local exchanges and signaling systems, are among the advanced features offered with OSPS.
