X-ray and electron powder diffraction for Y sub 2 Ba CuO sub 5.

We report the experimental x-ray diffraction pattern Y sub 2 BaCuO sub 5 for ready identification of this phase as a means of quality control during preparation of YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 based ceramic superconductors. The experimental patterns are in close agreement with that calculated from the published single-crystal data. We also calculated the extinction distances for electron diffraction at different voltages and these data are useful for transmission electron microscopy analyses of ceramic superconductors.
