Hollow Core Fiber - New Opportunities for Optical Communications
Conventional Silica Core Fiber (SCF) is an amazing success story in the history of communications. No other medium delivers the combination of low cost, high data capacity and intercontinental reach. But as compute power grows and new applications appear the latency that is inherrent when a signal passes through glass becomes increasingly evident. A new type of fiber - where the signal passes through an inert gas - is begnining to gain customer interest and market traction. In this session we will explain the current limitations, how Hollow Core Fiber is addressing them, hear from operators who have deployed this technology for real services, and close with a look at the other capabilities that moving away from glass can offer.

Resilient, accurate and service assured synchronization distribution over optical networks
Managing timing and synchronization across mission critical mobile and utility networks, to name just a few, is becoming an ever-increasing challenge for network operators. Threats to timing and synchronization integrity through geopolitical and unintentional sources are ever increasing, at same time as the demand on synchronization performance is increasing. Nokia is well positioned as an optical networking vendor for these applications with a unique depth of technical expertise and experience, and this has led to a recent period of impressive growth with timing and synchronization distribution solutions for optical networks, particularly in Europe. Nokia’s 1830 PSS and 1830 GX both support a synchronization over DWDM technique that uses a dedicated optical channel called OTC 2.0, with each platform optimizing the OTC2.0 architecture for the market applications of the underlying platform. 1830 PSS OTC2.0 excels in end-to-end synchronization distribution from core to metro to access networks with integrated SyncE and PTP clocks, and key features for widescale synchronization distribution. 1830 GX OTC2.0 leverages the timing channel and external T-GM/PRTC clocks making it very applicable for ultra-high accuracy core network applications such as vPRTC or cnPRTC architectures. This deep-dive session will review the market drivers, requirements and rationale for distributing synchronization across the optical network. After a quick overview of the key OTC2.0 solution components, we will focus on the technical capabilities that differentiate Nokia in areas such as synchronization OAM, performance, network management and ITU-T standard compliance. We will also outline how Nokia is proactively leveraging this experience and capabilities to be a thought leader within the industry and we will propose new business opportunities such as Synchronization as a Service (SyncaaS). The session will wrap up with a selection of real-world case studies that demonstrate Nokia’s market traction with a range of OTC deployments, with a focus on traction within the European market.
