Valentina Brizi

Valentina Brizi has been working in the Telecommunications sector for almost 30 years, establishing herself as a seasoned expert in transport networks and technologies. 
Previously responsible for the Transport Core Engineering Team un TIM, in August 2024, she was officially appointed Head of the Transport Engineering & Innovation function at FiberCop. In this role, she is entrusted with several critical functions: scouting for new technologies, testing and engineering solutions, and defining structural and developmental guidelines for transport/IP and switching platforms across the network’s platforms and services portfolio. Her responsibilities also include Cloud and Data Center platforms.
Additionally, she is responsible for shaping the medium- to long-term architectural framework, exploring innovative network and cloud technologies within her domain, and advancing Network Creation systems for IP and Transport networks. Through these efforts, she guides the strategic evolution and innovation of FiberCop’s network infrastructure.

Adrián is an Optical Networks Product Owner and Manager at Personal, where he is responsible for the design of projects, end to end deployments, and the optimization of the transmission network infrastructure. His scope includes DWDM platforms and domain controllers, and long haul fiber optic networks, working closely with technology partners to implement and integrate both hardware and software capabilities. His role includes contributing to the definition of the network architecture, while holding full accountability for project design, improving operational efficiency, and supporting network modernization initiatives. Previously, Adrián was part of the team that led the unification of the transport networks of Telecom and Cablevisión, a key milestone in network transformation. He also led the design and development of Telecom’s current network automation platform, enabling higher levels of programmability, integration, and operational agility across the transport domain. In addition, he served as Fixed Access Network Engineering Manager at Telecom Argentina, where he led the early FTTH and FTTC network designs. Throughout his career, he has held senior technical roles at carrier grade network operators, including Telecom Argentina and Telefónica Argentina, as well as at leading technology vendors such as Alcatel, giving him a balanced perspective across both operator and vendor environments. Adrián has more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with a strong background in network architecture, systems integration, and large scale network operations. He holds a degree in Systems and a postgraduate qualification in Digital Television. On a personal level, he is currently researching and developing AI supported agentic solutions, with a focus on automation and intelligent network operations.

He also holds an MBA in Project Management from Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and has been a PMI-certified Project Management Professional (PMP) since September 2025.
He has extensive experience in the deployment of infrastructure projects and optical systems across Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), State-wide Data Backbones (Infovias), and OPGW networks for the integration of the RNP (Brazilian National Research and Educational Network) Backbone.
His hands-on background encompasses telecommunications networks, optical network rollout, technical feasibility analysis, and the development of management reports. He specializes in the planning of optical infrastructure projects, including schedule management, cost control, and the execution of optical network deployments and DWDM systems.
Currently, he serves as a Project Coordinator at the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP), managing the implementation of Metropolitan Networks for the ""Connected Cities"" Program, State-wide Data Backbones for the ""Conecta"" Program, and the 7th Generation DWDM Backbone systems in partnership with Axia Energia.

Diego Teot

Diego Teot is a senior executive with over two decades of experience in the global telecommunications industry.  He began his career working on early streaming and Internet connectivity solutions in the Mediterranean region before joining Retelit in 2003.  Today, as Head of OTT, Media & Telco, he leads the company’s infrastructure business, overseeing international submarine networks, high-performance data centers, colocation services, and an extensive fiber backbone. In this role, he is driving the continued growth and consolidation of Retelit as a key partner for global carriers, OTTs, hyperscalers, and enterprises.

During his tenure as technological leader, he triggered the transformation of Sparkle into an API-centric global service platform, introducing the foundations of a software-defined, virtualized, and programmable network. He is a strong advocate of open standards and certification programs, driving Sparkle’s active contribution to industry initiatives.
In May 2023, while retaining his Group responsibilities, Daniele was appointed Chief Executive Officer of TI Sparkle Greece, the Group’s largest operating company in terms of assets and workforce.

Juan Pedro Brito

He is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and a founder of QoolNet, a knowledge-based spin-off created from technologies and expertise developed at UPM. Since joining the Information and Quantum Computing Group (GIICC) through a postdoctoral fellowship, he has participated in 26 competitive research projects funded by public and private institutions, including several FET Flagship initiatives. He has played a key role as Technical Lead and SDN Architect in a number of quantum communications projects, most notably MadQCI, one of the largest and most heterogeneous quantum communication networks in Europe. In this context, he has led a 17-member team at UPM, overseeing the integration of all system components and ensuring their correct operation. He has authored more than 70 international publications and is the inventor of several national patents currently under consideration for international extension. He is also a founding partner and CTO of QoolNet, a company built upon the knowledge and technology generated through the research projects in which he has been involved. In addition, he has directly contributed to the design and implementation of several ETSI standards related to quantum communications, including ETSI GS QKD 004, 014, 015, and 018. These standards have already been adopted by industry, with the first two implemented by multiple QKD device manufacturers and the latter two by telecommunications operators.

Luca Baragiola

Luca, after a Bachelor’s degree in Micro-Electronics engineering from the Politecnico University of Milano in 1997, moved into the telecommunications industry, where he has more than 20 years’ experience.  Since January 2022 he takes a new role inside the broader Nokia Optics community, as responsible for managing NFM-T Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) team, a Network Management System platform that is the core of the Optical Network.  Till 2021 he had a PLM role in ION Service BU covering the Optical segment, with a focus on Automation, System Integration, Operational Enablement Solutions and Network Transformation area. In this role Luca was responsible for identifying consumer needs, developing and promoting specific Professional Services to improve customer experience on Nokia Optics network performances and indorsing the ION Professional Service portfolio internally and externally. With this position he developed a deep knowledge on the Nokia Optics product catalogue and related Network Management applications.  Previously he was covering for 5 years a Product Management Role inside the Alcatel-Lucent Network Release Strategy Organization, following the homologation of specific Optics Mobile backhauling solutions.

Oriol Bertran Pardo

Oriol Bertran Pardo obtained his PhD from Télécom Paris in electrical engineering. His research work dealt with optical-communication systems, focusing on the physical propagation, for building high-speed long-haul WDM optical transmissions based on coherent detection. After joining development as R&D system engineer and then as product line manager, he contributed to the advanced engineering rules for WDM transmission of the Alcatel-Lucent next generation photonic network architectures. He is currently product line manager of subsystems and DSP in Nokia Optics Business Group.

He has authored and co-authored more than 80 conference and journal contributions, totaling more than 1,500 citations, and holds 13 patents. Among the publications done during his PhD, one was awarded an IEEE student grant and obtained the Photonics21 award. He deserved the Bell Labs president award in 2010 for his contribution and insights on the development of the first 100G coherent solution. He is also a distinguished member of technical staff since 2019.

Filipe Caetano

Filipe Caetano is Vice President of Product Management for classic Infinera’s Software Automation portfolio. In this role, he leads strategy and roadmap execution across the portfolio, which spans Network Management, Planning Tools, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), subsea automation, and AI-driven initiatives.  With more than 20 years of experience in telecommunications, Caetano has held a variety of senior leadership positions within the OSS domain. He began his career in 2002 at Siemens, working in the Optical Networks group as a Project Manager. Since then, he has held roles in program management, R&D leadership, and product management, building a strong technical foundation and a proven track record of delivering customer value.  He played a pivotal role in launching Coriant’s SDN initiatives, spearheading development of the company’s first WAN SDN product demonstration, presented at OFC in San Francisco in March 2014. A strong advocate for software automation, he continues to champion its role in driving openness, simplifying operations, and enabling new revenue streams. More recently, he has been instrumental in consolidating software automation portfolio following the Tellabs and Coriant acquisitions.  Caetano holds a Diploma in Aerospace Engineering with a specialization in Avionics from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal.

Martin Charbonneau

Martin Charbonneau is currently the Head of the Emerging Product Unit for the Optical Networking Business Unit of Nokia.  In this role, he is responsible for driving Optical Networking business in new and emerging segments such as Mobile Transport convergence, Cloud/edge and access transport, including new software and practices to address Software Defined Networking, and Open Networking deployments.  Prior to this assignment, Martin was leading portfolio product management activities for the 1830 Photonic Service Switch in Metro network applications (Packet and OTN solutions), and complementary Metro product lines of the portfolio, such as 1830 Versatile WDM Module (Nokia’s Mobile Front Haul solution).  He has been with Nokia for 10 years where he has also worked as a Product Line Manager for the Fixed Access product. Prior to joining Nokia, Martin held various roles of increasing responsibility in Product Line Management, Business and Network Planning and Professional Services for Metro Ethernet & Optical Transport Business units.  Martin received a Bachelor of Science in Space Sciences from the Canadian Royal Military College (RMC, St-Jean) and graduated as a commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces.

Sylvain Chenard

Sylvain Chenard is the Quantum-Safe Networks Solution Leader within the Network Infrastructure Business Group at Nokia. With more than 3 decades of experience in the telecommunications industry, Sylvain has extensive knowledge of secure optical communication systems and expertise of fiber-optics communication. He is also working with Nokia Bell Labs to define, productize state-of-the-art techniques and algorithms for estimating, monitoring transmission quality, and focusing on the emerging field of Quantum-Safe Networks, a solution for securing the digital infrastructure of the future.  Before joining Nokia, Sylvain was leveraging leading edge technology defining Roadmaps and Strategies for key platform pillars of telecom platforms: Networking, Virtualization, Security, Availability, Software Management and Central Configuration. From 2015, he joined Alcatel-Lucent in the core Product Line Management team being the principal Product Line Manager of Secure Management Systems for microwave and Optical transmission line systems. Sylvain has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Laval, Canada. Sylvain holds 5 patents, primarily in System Automation and Virtualization. Luc joined Alcatel in 1994, and has held several product management & business development leadership positions in Belgium, Italy, France and South Africa in the field of fixed access & transmission networks, witnessing the evolution from PDH/SDH to IP/OTN. Jose Manuel Estaran Tolosa

José works for Nokia’s Network Infrastructure business unit where he holds a position as product line manager for high-speed coherent solutions within the 1830 PSS product family. He accumulates 10 years of experience at the cutting edge of telecom innovation and has contributed to engineer communication solutions of recognized excellence – including over 40 international publications, 2 transmission records and 2 patents. José completed the Telecommunications B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), and the Electrical Engineering M.Sc. from the Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby (Denmark). In October 2012, he accepted a Ph.D. position in the Photonics Department at the Technical University of Denmark in applied digital signal processing and high-speed communications systems, where he coordinated various research projects in cooperation with industrial partners including Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (Now Nokia), Huawei, and Fujitsu. John Harrington is the Executive Vice President and Head of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, where he manages and oversees Nokia’s sales organization and overall business for the region. He is based in Antwerp, Belgium.  John has over 25 years of technical sales, customer relationship management and business development experience in the telecommunications industry across Asia, Europe and North America.  John was previously the Head of the Asia Pacific region for Network Infrastructure and the Customer Experience organization based in Singapore between 2021 and 2024. He was also the General Manager and head of Nokia Japan, based in Tokyo between 2018 and 2020.  Prior to his assignments in Asia, he was the Vice President, of US Major Accounts, where he led sales for a diverse set of wireless, wireline, cable and regional customers. And he spent several years as the head of the AT&T account for Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent.  As an interim veteran, John started his career at Motorola in the UK before moving to the USA with Lucent technologies.  Born in England, John holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering.

Vittorio Iozzolino

He joined Alcatel in 1998 and within the company he has held several positions, starting from the technical area in R&D, moving after few years to the business area, where in 2005 he became Sales Manager for Interhouse and Direst Sales of Optics business. From 2007 onwards, in Alcatel-Lucent, he has been responsible for the Optics Domain Business Center, covering different areas and customers’ perimeters in Europe. Since 2016, he is responsible within Nokia for the business development for all Mission Critical and Enterprise customers for Optical Networks in Europe. He holds a degree in telecommunication engineering from Politecnico of Milan, Italy. Based in Stuttgart, Germany, his interests are focused on everything related to information technology.

Ron Johnson

Ron Johnson is Vice President and General Manager for the Optical Networks Division at Nokia.  Prior to this role, Ron served as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Optical Subsystems and Global Engineering organizations at Infinera, acquired by Nokia in February 2025.
Before joining Infinera, Mr. Johnson built his exceptionally deep optical and IP networking experience and expertise over 20+ years at Cisco, where he held the position of Head of Product Management for the Optical Transport Business Unit. He began his career in network engineering at SBC Communications, now AT&T.  Mr. Johnson studied electrical engineering at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.

Her journey began in the industry in 1995, even before graduating, setting the stage for a career defined by continuous innovation.  Julia is an accomplished academic, earning a Master's in Biomedical Engineering from Moscow State University in 1996 and a Master's in Electrical Engineering from New York State University in 2003. Karyn Lennon

Karyn Lennon leads the Learning Services function for Nokia’s IP/Optical Networks Business Group.  In her role, Karyn is responsible for setting the strategic direction and development of Nokia’s Optical educational services which includes the Nokia Optical Networks Certification Program.  In addition to the Optical program, Karyn directs both Nokia’s flagship IP/MPLS certification program, the Service Routing Certification (SRC) Program which has over 14,000 individuals participating globally and the Nuage Networks Virtuoso Certification Program (NN-VCP). Prior to her role in Learning Services, Karyn held various PLM and Marketing positions at Newbridge Networks and Alcatel-Lucent. Fady Masoud is a Senior Director for Solutions Marketing at Nokia focusing on next-generation Intelligent Coherent Pluggable optics (ICE-X) and cloud /data center interconnect solutions. His area of expertise is the architecture and requirements of next-generation optical networking infrastructure. During his 30 years in the telecommunications industry, Fady has held various positions in the optical networking domain at Nortel, Ciena, Infinera, and now Nokia. He started as a hardware test engineer on the first OC-192 (10 Gb/s) systems and then was a systems and network engineer on metropolitan optical products, all combined with hands-on experience. Fady holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Laval University (Quebec City, Canada) and a master’s degree in systems technology (software simulation of optical networks) from the Superior School of Technology (Montreal, Canada). He has written numerous industry and technical publications (incl IEEE), including a book, on next-generation optical networking, cloud networking, and data center interconnect, as well as on many other key topics.

Serge Melle

Serge joined Nokia in 2019, and currently leads the Optical Product Marketing team for Nokia, and previously led North American sales enablement for IP-optical networks. Prior to joining Nokia, Serge worked at Infinera in product and solutions marketing and business development. Prior to Infinera, Serge worked at Nortel Networks, where was responsible for solutions marketing and business development, and at Pirelli Telecom Systems, where he was involved in the implementation of the industry’s first WDM network deployments. Serge is extensively published in the field of optical networking and holds a BSc in physics from Concordia University, Montréal, and an MASc in applied physics from the University of Toronto.

Annalisa Morea

Senior Consulting Engineer

Annalisa Morea graduated in Telecommunication Engineering both in Italy at Politecnico di Torino and also in France at the ENST in.  Terminated the PhD (done at the France Telecom, today Orange France, premises and with the ENST-Paris in Computer Science), she joined Bell Labs in Paris where she stayed for 8 years and had the opportunity to work on WDM optical networks, by proposing routing algorithms and resource allocation strategies for optical networks having resiliency specifications compliant with Alcatel-Lucent, now Nokia, 1830PSS products. She participated in several national and European projects and contributed in publishing many conference and journal technical articles.  In 2015 she joined the NI teams in Italy where she worked for 9 years on the optical multilayer tools, both on the physical infrastructure design and on the routing aspects. Since September 2024 she joined the Regional EU Business Center group as Senior Consultant.
