Life-like live group calls
Use case: Life- like live group calls
IVAS (Immersive Voice and Audio Services) makes multi-party calls easier to hear and participate in. The accompanying metadata indicates where each participant is positioned and helps manage ambient noise.
We’ve all experienced calls where it’s difficult to follow the conversation—or even get a word in—when multiple people are speaking. Traditional group calls often sound flat, with voices overlapping in the same channel.
IVAS changes this by introducing spatial separation. Each participant can be rendered from a different direction in the sound field, making it easier to distinguish who is speaking. Even in busy conversations.
With IVAS, group calls become more natural, less fatiguing, and easier to follow. Instead of voices blending, participants sound as though they’re sitting around the same table. This enhances not only everyday social calls, but also scenarios such as live event participation or interactive broadcasts where clarity and presence matter.
The experience can be taken even further with Nokia’s Immersive Voice solution, which includes native IVAS support. Users can, for example, move sound sources around, bring voices closer to improve intelligibility, or push them further away to focus on other sounds.
