World’s first 225 Mbps on smartphones – another LTE-Advanced record in Korea!

Congratulations to all three mobile operators in Korea: SK Telecom, LG U+ and KT have been the first operators in the world to launch a 225 Mbps LTE-Advanced service with smartphones!


Last year, we talked about the “start of a veritable speed revolution” when SK Telecom, LG U+ and KT were the first operators to launch LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation.

Now, not even a year later, we see the next step of this speed revolution, with the successful commercial launch of LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation with 30 MHz bandwidth and Category 6 smartphones, which enables Korean LTE subscribers to enjoy downlink data speeds of up to 225 Mbps. As Nokia, we are proud that the software upgrade we introduced in the 3 operators’ networks on our Flexi Multiradio 10 basestations during the first half of 2014 is now – with the availability of the first Category 6 smartphones – resulting in unbelievable speeds for an enhanced customer experience.

The Korean LTE-Advanced 225 Mbps launches are unique in many ways: They use smartphones, they build on large-scale LTE-Advanced networks, and these fastest of networks cover large parts of the country’s population.

Having accelerated LTE data rates by a factor of three, we are looking forward to the next steps of this LTE-A speed revolution and continued work with our loyal customers.
